Huehuetenango is one of three non-volcanic regions in Guatemala . Compared to other coffee-growing regions in the country, Huehuetenango is the highest and driest, making it one of the best for coffee production.
Warm air currents from the Tehuantepec Plains in Oaxaca, Mexico, mix with cold air descending from the Cuchumatanes Mountains, protecting the coffee trees from frost. This creates a microclimate that allows coffee to be grown at altitudes up to 2,000 meters.
The geographical conditions of Huehuetenango play a major role in producing exceptional coffees with unusual acidic and fruity aromas.
